Description

Mack F., a trotter horse, and D. Fay, a pacer horse, pose by their sulkies (lightweight, two-wheeled vehicles used by jockeys for harness racing) in front of a stable. The owner, Fred Moffatt, may be standing in the background. Fred Moffatt, owner of Moffatt Cigar Company, 212 W. State Street, was very active in horse racing, which was an extremely popular sport in Rockford. This photograph may have been taken at the "driving range" just north of the city limits or at the Fairgrounds, and may have been taken at the same time as photos 88.122.708, 88.122.660, 88.122.659c, 88.122.659b, 88.122.659a, 88.122.676, 88.122.800, 88.122.790, and 88.122.678.
