An aerial view of the Forest City Knitting Co., 212 Catherine St., Rockford IL, showing the Rock River (top portion of photo). Denton Island is visible in the extreme upper part of the photograph. John Nelson, who began the Nelson Knitting Co. in 1880, died in 1883 at the age of 53. His sons, Franklin, William, Oscar, and Frithiof, started the Forest City Knitting Co. in 1890.
