A young Howard Colman (1873-1942) is pictured here checking fabric on one of his inventions. This photograph is in Jon Lundin's book Master Inventor (2006, p. 18-19) with this caption: "Colman and his warp drawing-in machine (D.I.M.) in the 1890s. The photograph was taken in the inventor's second-floor workshop in the Spengler Brothers' building in Rockford. A white sheet was used as a backdrop."
