The caption from Hassell's autobiography, A Viking with Wings (1987, p. 81) states, "After a day's layover, with the Greater Rockford now carrying a full fuel load, they took off for Greenland, next stop on a great circle route laid out to provide practical intermediate landings, rather than flight entirely over water."
