Freight Engine 491 Collision
Description
Freight Engine 491 had a head-on collision with much smaller Switch Engine 116 just west of the 7th Street crossing of the Illinois Central Railroad. The freight train was running about 30 minutes ahead of schedule at the time and was not expected. There were no injuries as both crews were able to jump from the engines before the collision. Similar depictions can be seen in photos 88.122.693, 88.122.694, and 88.122.733.
