Description
The "Wate-A-Wyle" Club was a group of young men who had fixed up old automobiles with imitation racing bodies with no machine costing over $100. These vehicles were used for a comedy race which was at a snail's pace due to the cars often stopping or getting out of gear. The club in Rockford, Illinois imitated the Elgin Road Race which used the same types of vehicles. The Wate-A Wyle Club was popular and was asked to repeat these races in community celebrations in areas surrounding Rockford, Illinois. This image shows a Red Cross banner on the back of a vehicle. It may be present in case of injury during the race.
