Freight Engine 491 Collision
Description
An account of the resource
Freight Engine 491 was involved in a head-on collision with a much smaller engine, Switch Engine 116, just west of the 7th Street crossing of the Illinois Central Railroad. The freight train was running about 30 minutes ahead of schedule at the time and was not expected. There were no injuries as both crews were able to jump from the engines before the collision.
