A black and white photograph depicting the engine room of McDermaid Churn Factory, 208-220 N. Madison St., Rockford IL, purveyors of coal, coke, wood and manufacturer of barrel churns and animal powers, which were treadmills to harness animal power for industry.

The police officers in this unidentified parade are marching on E. State St., with the "Coal" sign on the left denoting Rockford Lumber and Fuel Co. at 201 E. State. Next, the Rockford Printing sign can be seen, located at 214-216 E. State, and on the right, at 222 E. State, the East Side Inn Cafe sign is painted on a window in the East Side Inn building, located at 104 N. Madison, which is the intersecting street just beyond the right of the photograph.
