An account of the resource
The Arrow, Rockford's first public steamboat, was launched on the Rock River in 1885 and served well until sinking in 1900. This photograph looks north up the Rock River. The boat was launched next to Fred G. Shoudy's Wholesale grocery business at 116 N. Water Street just north of the State Street bridge.
