An account of the resource
In 1972, Karen Howard and Stephen Powers opened the music venue Charlotte’s Web in downtown Rockford, Illinois. Known for folk music and dedication to the arts, Charlotte’s Web was a thriving center of folk music.
The Web attracted regional folk artists such as Bonnie Koloc, Jim Post, Dick Pinney, Tom Dundee, Ron Negrini, Art Theime, Dave “Shaker” Ray, and Betsy Kaske. As they grew they hosted such well known performers as Mary Travers, Odetta, Dizzie Gillespie, Timothy Leary, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Leon Redbone.
In 2012 the Web became part of the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. For more information go to https://www.mendelssohnpac.org/
