There is a blue pen mark over the head of the second worker from the right, indicating that this may be "Dad", who is believed to be a young Carl E. Johnson, machinist. A black and white photograph of W. F. & John Barnes Co. interior, located at 301 S. Water St. in Rockford IL, and specializing in "drilling machines, foot power lathes and woodworking machinery" according to the 1920 city directory. Three workers are visible in this picture. A handwritten note on the photo's back states, "Dad in the shop where he worked." This refers to Carl E. Johnson, machinist, believed to be in the white apron (right of center).
